Jewel City: Art from San Francisco’s Panama-Pacific International Exposition, Educator Workshop

Jewel City reassembles more than 200 works of art that were displayed at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, including paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs. The centennial celebration of this world’s fair, which showcased innovations, industries, and the arts, features examples illustrating the era’s range of artistic styles and movements. The teacher workshop will include educator resources, background about the development of the exhibition, and a studio activity. This program will be geared for students in the 4th grade and up.

Food at the Fair

California Historical Society and The Culinary Historians of Northern California
Food played a huge part in the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Visitors to the fair learned about new fruit hybrids, cookware innovations, leading Napa wines, and many other wonders in the Palace of Food Products; they tasted the winners of PPIE culinary competitions such as Larraburu sourdough bread; they snacked on enchiladas, chop suey, and clam chowder at the fair; and they explored San Francisco's restaurants during their stay in the city.
